Consultation

Maybe you feel your hearing has deteriorated recently?
One ear has clearer hearing than the other?
Your balance feels off?
Pressure in your ears or head?
These are just a few of the many questions that an Ears Of Axholme Consultation can provide the answers to.

Microsuction

In addition to the consultation process, microsuction is available for those who are aware of a wax build-up or are prone to the over-production of earwax.

Microsuction feels like cool air in your ear, some gentle movement as the blockage releases
Microsuction sounds like a sound similar to tuning an old radio.

Each ear and build-up is different, so we encourage you to make at least an hour available within your day. While all appointment types are likely to be far shorter than this, allowing time around your appointment helps to create a relaxed environment free of wider commitments.

The only requirement is that you can remain still throughout the procedure to maintain safety. As long as this can be done, microsuction is an enjoyable, satisfying, and liberating procedure that will instantly improve your quality of life and connect you closer to the world and people around you.

Post-procedure, we will reflect on your previous symptoms to ensure these are now relieved. Any relevant aftercare advice will be given before continuing your day in high fidelity!

Warm Water Irrigation

In addition to the consultation process, warm water irrigation is available for those who are aware of a wax build-up or have softened earwax that can be gently removed using this method.

Warm water irrigation is a safe and effective way of removing earwax by using a controlled flow of warm water to gently flush the wax from the ear canal. This technique is sometimes referred to as ear syringing and may be recommended depending on the type and position of the wax.

Irrigation feels like warm water gently flowing into the ear, helping to loosen and clear the wax blockage.
Irrigation sounds like soft rushing or splashing sound as the water moves through the ear canal.

At Ears of Axholme, our primary and preferred method of ear wax removal is microsuction, as it allows us to clearly see inside the ear canal while safely removing wax using medical suction.

Warm water irrigation may only be used in certain situations, such as when a patient specifically prefers this method or when microsuction is not suitable. In some cases, it may also be used as a last resort if wax cannot be removed effectively using microsuction alone.

Each ear and wax build-up is different, so we encourage you to make at least an hour available within your day. While the procedure itself is usually much shorter, allowing extra time helps create a relaxed environment around your appointment.

The only requirement is that you remain still throughout the procedure to ensure safety. When appropriate, warm water irrigation can help gently clear the ear canal and restore clearer hearing.

Post-procedure, we will re-examine your ears to ensure the blockage has been safely removed. Any relevant aftercare advice will be provided before you continue with your day.

How You Can Prepare For Your Appointment

-If you are under 18, ensure you have a legal parent or guardian in attendance for the duration of the appointment.

-You will be required to answer a number of questions regarding your hearing-related symptoms and wider health.

-Please ensure you have made 1 hour available around your appointment, regardless of the procedure necessary. While all appointments should take less than an hour, this helps to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, free from external commitments.

Olive Oil

-If you are aware of a wax blockage and have booked a removal procedure, it is highly beneficial to instil olive oil or Earol spray into the ear canal, before bedtime, in the days prior to your appointment.
3 drops, 3 times a day, for 3 days.

The properties of olive oil soften the earwax and make extraction quicker, easier, and more comfortable - avoiding the need for a potential secondary appointment.

Note: DO NOT use olive oil if you are aware of or suspect an eardrum perforation (tear or hole in the eardrum)

Please do not hesitate to CALL ahead of your appointment with any questions or queries you may have. Alternatively, visit our FAQs page.
